Malawi Police have intercepted property worth over millions of kwacha and arrested over 43 criminals on wanted list, according to Central Region Police spokesperson John Namalenga.

He said the arrests follow routine operations police conduct in the city.

“The criminal intelligence sweeping operation exercise was carried out in Kanengo, Kawale and Lingadzi,” he said.

Namalenga said the list included four rape suspects, five robbers and seven house beakers.

“Five were found possessing chamba, eight caught with stolen property, five were arrested for general theft and two for illegal possession of foreign currency,” he said.

According to Namalenga, they have a list of the stolen items and property claimants should bring with them proof. “By intercepting or seizing property, this is one way of putting these kinds of crimes under control. Investigations are still underway and the suspects will appear in court once this is completed,” said Namalenga.
